FINE DINING IN
MISSISSIPPI
After a light breakfast at the hotel we headed to the golf
course at Pass Christian Isles where we played a very slow round with a couple
from Georgia. However, the green fee was
$ 15. Including a cart. Not finishing
until after 3:00 p.m. we decided it was too late for lunch and that we would
hold out until dinner.
On the advice of TripAdvisor we eventually found a seafood
restaurant called Blow Fly Inn. The
building is on stilts and set in a beautiful Bayou. Although the interior design was quite
unpretentious we had a window seat with a great vista.
I asked our waitress for a wine list and was informed that no
such thing existed. However, she rhymed off
4 or 5 wines and when I chose she asked if we wanted two glasses. “No”, I responded, “we’ll have a bottle.” “But sir, you’ll get sloshed”, was her
response and she indicated that the wine was in gallon jugs.
After a shared appetizer of fried green tomatoes, followed by
house salads, Betty had a combination plate (oysters, shrimp, catfish, stuffed
crab) and I ordered the fried crab claw plate with a side of baked beans.
When the crab claws arrived I could not resist counting
them. Determined that I would eat the
lot my pant buttons stopped me at 55 (out of 70).
